NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Fortress Investment Group LLC (NYSE: FIG) was named the recipient of the Navy SEAL Foundation’s 2011 Patriot Award at the Foundation’s Fifth Annual Benefit on December 1. Fortress was selected by the Foundation based on the extent of its charitable giving, particularly to causes supporting military groups and veterans, its commitment as an employer to the veterans’ community, and a broad range of programs and discounts provided to veterans through Fortress’s portfolio companies.

The Navy SEAL Foundation was established to provide immediate and ongoing support to Navy SEALs, other members of the Naval Special Warfare (NSW) community, and their families. The Foundation provides assistance to families of NSW personnel killed or wounded in combat or training, scholarships and educational assistance to active duty personnel, their spouses and children, family events to boost morale for NSW family members whose spouses/fathers can spend up to 60% of their time actively deployed, and a broad range of other assistance focused on ensuring that no member of the NSW community has any doubt where to go in times of need or adversity.
