Thomas Chan-Soo Kang is President of Fortress Asia and a member of the Management Committee of Fortress. Mr. Kang is responsible for business development, capital formation, strategy and management in the Asian region.
Prior to joining Fortress, Mr. Kang was CEO of Kang & Company, an investment firm, and Chairman and CEO of Seoul Securities in Korea. Mr. Kang joined Seoul Securities in 1999, and during his tenure, led the acquisitions of Seoul Asset Management (formerly Hanil ITMC) and Seoul Futures (formerly Cheil Futures). Mr. Kang also established Seoul Z, one of the first domestic private-equity operations. Prior to joining Seoul Securities, Mr. Kang was a Managing Director at BT Wolfensohn in New York. Mr. Kang began his career in 1984 at the predecessor firm, James D. Wolfensohn Incorporated. At BT Wolfensohn, Mr. Kang specialized in mergers and acquisitions, focusing on financial services companies. In addition, Mr. Kang worked as a Visiting Researcher at Korea Development Institute.
Mr. Kang was a board member of SK Holdings, KB Financial Group (parent of Kookmin Bank), the Bloomberg Asia-Pacific Advisory Board, the East Asia Institute, the Seoul Financial Forum and the National Strategy Institute. Mr. Kang served as President of the Harvard Yard Club and Vice Chairman of the Harvard Club of Korea.
Mr. Kang holds an AB in economics from Harvard College and an MBA in finance from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
