George W. Wellde, Jr. has been a member of the Board of Directors of Fortress Investment Group LLC since August 2009. Mr. Wellde served as Vice Chairman of the Securities Division at Goldman, Sachs & Co. from 2005 until his retirement in 2008. Prior to that, he was head of North America Sales for the Fixed Income, Currency and Commodities division. Mr. Wellde joined Goldman Sachs in 1979, became a partner in 1992. In addition, he was branch manager of the Goldman Sachs Tokyo office and head of its Fixed Income Division from 1994 to 1999. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, he worked for the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington from 1976 to 1979.
Mr. Wellde is currently on the Board of Trustees of George Washington University and is a member of the Investment, Audit and Finance and Executive committees. Additionally, he is a member of the Investment Committee of the University of Richmond where he previously served on the Board from 2000 to 2010 and as the Chair of the Board from 2006 to 2010. He currently serves on the Board of the Partnership for Public Service in Washington, D.C. and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Mr Wellde also served on the Board of the Gavi Alliance from 2001 to 2014 on the Execcutive, Governance and Investment committees.
Mr. Wellde holds a B.S. from the University of Richmond and an M.B.A. from George Washington University.
